Extras: Sell Extras like Activities or Car Rental

Sell extras with your accommodation, such as half board, bicycle hire or parking, as upsell items or packages. Sell activities, events or rentals that aren't tied to a stay, such as tours, courses or car rental, by setting them up as a property of the type Activity.

Add extras to an accommodation booking

Add-ons such as half board, bicycle hire, a sightseeing trip or parking are booked together with the accommodation.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Booking Engine > Upsell Items.
  2. Select the property. If you have several properties, set up each one separately: each property can have its own rules.
  3. Add the item and set it as optional or obligatory:
    • Obligatory: added to the booking automatically, and the guest can't remove it. Examples are an end-of-stay cleaning charge or a tax.
    • Optional: the guest can choose it with their booking.
  4. Save your changes.

Expected result: guests see your optional items when they book, and obligatory items are added to every booking.

You can enable or disable optional upsell items for individual prices. When a guest books, only the optional items enabled for a price in that booking are offered.

  • If the booking uses a combination of Daily Prices and Fixed Prices, all activated upsell items are offered.
  • Obligatory upsell items are always enabled and can't be disabled by a price.

Offer packages

If you package extras with the accommodation, show them as additional offers. For example, guests can choose between accommodation only and accommodation with half board. To activate additional offers, see Offers.

Sell single-day activities and events

Examples are tours, events and courses.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Properties and click Add New Property.
  2. Click Edit to open Settings > Properties > Description. Enter a name, such as Day Trip, and the currency you accept.
  3. Set Type of Booking to Activity.
  4. Go to Settings > Properties > Rooms > Setup and set:
    • Name: for example, Day Trip.
    • Quantity: the number of places or items you have.
    • Unit Allocation: One per Guest.
    • Collect Number of Guests: No.
    • Maximum Guest: the same number as Quantity.
    • Maximum Stay: Single Day Activity, for an event, class or tour that isn't booked by the day. The departure date is then not collected, and the booking form uses wording for an event or day activity instead of accommodation.
    • Accommodation Type: what the guest books, such as Ticket.
  5. Go to Settings > Guest Management > Confirmation Messages and customise your messages. At a minimum, delete everything in the default messages that refers to accommodation.
  6. Go to Prices, add a price and set a Single Price and an Extra Person price.

Expected result: guests can book your activity on your booking page with a single date.

Sell multi-day rentals such as bike or car hire

Prerequisites: the calendar and booking end date settings below apply to all properties in an account. If you want to change them for the rental only, create the rental property in a sub account. See Sub Account.

Steps:

  1. Set how the control panel displays rentals:
    • Go to Settings > Account > Preferences > Control Panel Calendar > Calendar Style and set Calendar to Booked Units.
    • Go to Settings > Account > Preferences > Bookings and set Show Booking End Date to Last Night.
  2. Go to Settings > Properties, click Add New Property, then Edit. In Settings > Properties > Description, enter a name, such as Bike Hire, and the currency you accept.
  3. Set Type of Booking to Activity.
  4. Go to Settings > Properties > Rooms > Setup and set:
    • Name: for example, Bike Hire.
    • Quantity: the number of bikes or cars you have.
    • Unit Allocation: One per Guest.
    • Collect Number of Guests: No.
    • Maximum Guest: the same number as Quantity.
    • Maximum Stay: the maximum length of a hire.
    • Accommodation Type: what the guest books, such as Bike or Car.
  5. Go to Prices > Daily Price Rules and add a Daily Price with Price For set to Per Person.
  6. Go to Calendar and set the per person price for each date it applies to.
  7. Go to Settings > Guest Management > Confirmation Messages and customise your messages. Delete everything in the defaults that refers to accommodation, and use [LASTNIGHT] instead of [CHECKOUT] so the message shows the dates booked. Example:
    Reference Number: [REFERENCENUMBER]
    Room: [ROOMNAMES]
    Name: [GUESTFULLNAME]
    Email: [GUESTEMAIL]
Pickup date: [FIRSTNIGHT] - Return date [LASTNIGHT]
    Number of day(s): [NUMNIGHT]
    [INVOICETABLE]
  8. Set how the booking and invoice table show the rental: go to Settings > Guest Management > Invoicing > Invoice Item Room > Description - One Per Booking. Example:
[ROOMNAME1] collection on [FIRSTNIGHT] for [NUMNIGHT] Day(s)
  9. Show only the pickup date and number of days on the booking page: go to Settings > Booking Engine > Property Booking Page > Developer > Custom CSS and enter:
    .b24-selector-checkout{display:none;}
  10. Change the text in the booking selector: go to Settings > Booking Engine > Property Booking Page > Developer > Custom Text. Example:
    Check in|Pick-up
    Nights|Number of days

Expected result: guests book a pickup date and a number of days, and your messages and invoices show the rental dates.
